Kenya Class
Welcome to our Reception Class Page! Here you can find information about how we organise Kenya Class for our youngest learners as we explain why we work in the way that we do.
You can also scroll to the bottom of this page to find out what we have been up to in Kenya Class!
What have we been up to in Kenya Class?
Powder Paints
We've enjoyed using our new powder paint resources today. We've mixed our own colours, thinking about shades as we've mixed darker and lighter colours together, and we've also thought about paint texture as we've added different amounts of water to create watery or thicker paint. Lots of mess but also lots of fun!
Library Trip
We had a lovely time on our first trip to the library. We spent time searching for books we were interested in. Some of us chose non-fiction and some of us chose stories. We then showed our books to one another and explained why we had chosen them. We enjoyed using the computer to check the books out and we met the librarian. We loved going on the minibus!
Mono-Printing
Grandmother Autumn came to visit us with a basket full of autumnal leaves. Her collection inspired us to create mono-prints using a roller, black paint and some special art paper. Whilst looking at our prints, we noticed the veins and stems and were able to remember our vocabulary to name them. We discovered that it's easier to make a print of a leaf using this technique than it is to make a print of something that is not flat like an acorn!
Lavender's Blue...
We've been having fun learning lots of nursery rhymes during our first term at Trottiscliffe. Did you know that nursery rhymes are BRILLIANT for children's speech development, phonic skills, recall, memorisation, listening skills and vocabulary?! All of these skills support children to become readers and writers and so we continue with learning lots of new nursery rhymes all the way through Reception at Trottiscliffe.
One of our favourites has been meeting the Lavender King and Queen and learning 'Lavender's Blue.' We now have the toy king and queen added to our classroom provision to play with and the children really enjoyed exploring real lavender using our senses before adding it to playdough and even paint!
Outside Fun!
The children have loved exploring our garden and discovering all of the fun things to play with! We are very lucky here at Trottiscliffe to have such an abundance of wildlife and nature, often finding exciting things such as newts, huge toads and even a shrew! Some of the children this year have been so inspired by all of our beautiful flowers in the garden that they decided to have a go at drawing some of them! This involved using our noticing skills - something that is very tricky when you are four years old!
